Tucker Wants To Write A Post, Help A Dog

Each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations. Pedigree created The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs.

This year the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a “Fan” or “Likes” The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook. So far more than 1 million bowls have been donated.

Tuckers First Swim

Last Sunday it was 98 degrees, so we decided to take Tucker to Omak Lake for his first swim.

You could say Tucker certainly wasn’t shy (like some other golden girl we know) about getting his feet wet for the first time.

I think its obvious Tucker was born to swim.

A new playmate

My husband and I are in the process of building a house on 2 acres in the sunny Okanogan of WA State. We spend all our spare time at the property landscaping, weeding, moving rocks etc. Last night Tucker got to meet Spenser, a Jack Russell, one of our soon to be dog neighbors. We've known Spenser for a while and he is attached to us. Once the initial jealousy was over the two dogs had a great time playing.

Getting dirty

Yesterday my husband, Tucker, and I went to our property to tackle a bit of weeding. Tucker was really getting into the yard work, and wanted to try using his dads big tractor.

Although we didn't let Tucker drive the tractor, we did let him get as dirty as he wanted. He managed to tackle a few big sticks for us.

If you couldn't already tell from previous pictures of Sasha, I am notorious for dressing my fur-babies up in clothes. I started doing it at first for the fun of it, then I found out that Sasha really enjoyed getting dressed up in ‘outfits’. We will have to see what Tuckers reaction to apparel will be as I’m sure I will be out fitting him in different types of whether gear. Here is a snapshot of Tucker wearing his first bandana gifted to us from Luna and mom.

I would like to introduce you to a new member of our family. His name is Tucker, and he is my new little ball of fur!

I know I recently posted that I had received wonderful news that my breeder friend will be expecting puppies in June. That is still the case, and I am still planning on adopting one from her litter. It just so happened that my husband and I were introduced to a local breeder who had a few Golden boys available for adoption. After one meeting with the breeder I just couldn’t help myself and had to bring a little guy home. I am so excited to have Tucker that I don’t think I will be able to get any sleep tonight!

About Sasha

Sasha was a wonderful companion, a true friend, the consummate loving Golden Retriever. She was brought into our family as a young, vivacious puppy and had grown into a beautiful adult. Sasha loved to be with her family, and her family loved to have her close to them. Whether it was on the couch, on someone’s bed, or just in our arms, Sasha would be there – happy as could be.

In January 2009, Sasha, was diagnosed with Histiocytic Sarcoma/malignant histioccytosis, along with splenic erythropoiesis. Sasha had six months to a year to live; she managed to fulfill only one of those months. On March 13, 2009, just nine days before her seventh birthday, Sasha passed away. She died in her sleep, at her old home in Brier, WA – where she had brought us so much laughter, and shown us so much love. She had fought bravely against the sudden onset of her cancer and the resulting splenectomy, but it had all been a bit too much for her body to take.

It is always sad to lose a family dog. The event can even be devastating at times – especially when the life expectancy has been cut so short and so abruptly. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of having such a close companion knows what it’s like to lose that friendship.

There is a special, different connection, and one which makes you believe that you'll never have another because you won't ever survive the breaking of/taking of your heart when that dog leaves. The relationship is rare, and unlike even having a ‘favorite’ dog, or a dog that we adore.” Author Unknown

Puppies!! I just received wonderful news that my breeder friend will be expecting puppies from one of her girls by the end of June. I have had puppy fever for quite some time now and I am relieved (and excited) to know that I will soon once again be with a dog.

An Introduction

An Introduction:

My name is Janet, and while I don’t currently own a dog, I am impatiently waiting for my future puppy’s litter to be born. You see, my daughter Elizabeth (author and owner of Dog Blogging with Luna) has talked me into starting this blog in the hopes of meeting all of you wonderful dog bloggers. I figured this would also be a way to share my soon-to-be family dog photos with friends and family who are not geographically close to me.

A few things about me:

I am forever and always will be a dog person. I have had the pleasure of owning two beautiful Goldens - Rusty and Sasha.

Rusty was a big, beautiful, red boy and was the one who first started my love affair with the breed.

Sasha was my next Golden, and the love of my life. She was my sidekick in all things fun, and was always there to be my teddy bear.

I have no idea what my next dog will be like, but I am looking forward to having a ‘baby’ home again.

The title of my blog: “Just A Country Dog”

The name of my blog pretty much speaks for itself. I have recently retired with my husband to a small town where everyone wears cowboy boots and hats, and new neighbors just happen to be horses.

I am looking forward to this new thing called ‘blogging’ and am looking forward to meeting all of you bloggers out there. My daughter Elizabeth had promised to teach me the ways of ‘the Blog.’ Please feel free to check back often. I am currently waiting to hear the results of a doggy ultrasound, so please keep your fingers crossed for me!
